Ashley Madison hack affecting users in Michigan
The fallout from the Ashley Madison hack has continued to spiral. Suicides have been reported as a result and marauding psychopaths have begun to exploit money from those terrified of discovery. Many Ashley Madison users willing to be interviewed have reported living in fear and paranoia, all but certain that they will be discovered and loose their marriages. Those watching say “ what were you expecting” and “why didn’t you think of that before”. Others are more punitive and judgmental in their reactions by announcing that’s “what they deserve”.
Yet, their seems to be a ground swell of sympathy for the adulterous spouses who have been victimized by the Ashley Madison hack. Many “experts” discussing the Ashley Madison fallout have offered sympathetic insights, touching upon many peoples fears about their own privacy and the vulnerability of the risk of “personal” information used by others in exploitative ways.
While there is no denying the victimization of the Ashley Madison users, the real victims of betrayal of trust caused by infidelity are treated more like a footnote in the discussions. Recently, the Detroit Free Press of Michigan reported that the real victims were the spouses and that Ashley Madison glorified ‘calculated’ cheating as if it was only fun without any real consequences. Spouses and other family members are being injured on multiple levels. They are being betrayed, publicly humiliated, and often seen unfairly as the reason the cheating spouse needed to stray in the first place. They may suffer in silence and even feel compelled to protect the cheating spouse from more fallout by standing by him (or her) or even taking on blame to deflect away the attention. In the process, they loose a piece of their reality, heart, and soul. The spouses of the Ashley Madison users need help too. There are multiple victims caused by the hack.
The effects of infidelity can be worked with and in many cases healing and renewal are possible. However, that is best accomplished by those specifically trained to deal with the reasons behind the betrayal and how best to recover from the impact. Deciding to do nothing or to make promises never to “cheat again” are not good positions that bring about renewed hope and trust. So, seek help. Do not go this alone. Hope is possible.
